These are some sketches from my notebook, which was the early design for the casing of our mobile tech project "MotherBird".








The first 2D Drawing of the MotherBird casing, based heavily on the ideas of a typical children's watch to make the GPS tracker easily wearable.






After getting some feedback from my CAD lecturer, Becky and my fellow course mates I decided to add some more dimensions for the stretchy material at maximum size. I also changed the curved design of the actual unit to be flat.






Initial idea for a "bangle" type housing for the "MotherBird". I made two separate ideas for the bangle, one with the panic button on the side of the device as a squeezable tab, and another with the panic button as a normal, small button on the front, similar to that of the "watch-like" casing.








I then finished the idea off by adding some more dimensions and importing it into a finished and filled out TitleBlock.







First I simply extruded the basic 2D outline of the Watchcase I had created before.




I then used some simple extrusion and subtraction with different shapes on the main body to create the shape of the "main" unit. Including the creation of a cylinder to create the look of the button.




I then began to add detail, which required the usage of other layers. I was able to round the top of the button using a sphere, add USB and Microchip slots using Extrusion and Subtraction of different shapes. Also I finished the creation of the back piece including the battery and large chip. The final touch was creating the protective back panel and screws to show how the back panel would fit.




I then filled in the TitleBlock and filleted the edges of the plates and inside the unit to create a smoother look.





To create the 3D model of the bangle case, I first extruded the adjustable stubs.



I then moved the extruded stubs so that they lined up.



I then had to join the ends of the original design's sides to allow for extrusion.



Then came to extruding the actual unit. To do this, I extruded the squeezable side pieces to a higher height than the actual unit. I then moved the unit down to create the unit wth squeezable sides.



I then imported the 2D design for the back and front of the unit.



I then extruded the 2D design and subtracted it from the unit to create the detail.



Further extruding the 2D Design, I created the details of the battery and MotherBird chip.



I then filled in the TitleBlock and filleted the edges of the plates and inside the unit to create a smoother look.



I then worked with Team Mango's Sam Coath to stylize all my 3D designs and render them to show on the website made by Adam Horne and to present our project.
After seeing my mesh model of a ring Team Mango decided it would be good to turn this into a casing for the MotherBird. All this took was some additional mesh face splitting and some simple face extrusion, along with some selective creasing and smoothing to create the final result.




Now came to rendering the models with materials to make it look the part.

These are my contributions for our 2D Platformer Game Project, I created the Assets to be used in the game along with the backgrounds to be used behind the levels. I also wrote the story for the beginning of the game and the intro to the first level, based in the Aztec times.







As our Game Project was intended for teenagers and was a quirky game about being randomly transported through time, I wanted to give the Logo a degree of craziness and lack of structure. I set about creating multiple different letters of the game name in different, wacky fonts I had created myself, and then set about creating a U-turn bended arrow to show confusion and link in with the idea of going backwards in time.



I also created the game's story. Here is a link to that.

Game Story

First of all Abbey-Jane Tate-Grimes gave me her sketches of some ideas for background objects and assets. I then went about drawing the assets of what would go into the background.





I then went about creating the background and importing the assets in to the background to create an outline.





Then all that was left was to hatch it to create the end result.

This is a 3D CAD model of the sword that the Knight will use to "execute" the player of their chooser (hopefully the saboteur). This will "pop out" of the markers through the player's phone screen, and will slowly be created piece by piece as the players progress.

I first began creating Winchester's Great Hall by extruding faces of a Mesh Box with lots of vertices to create an accurate shape for the base building of the Great Hall, this also allowed me to smooth it to create the "semi-realistic" art style Team Peach decided on.



I then extruded a triangle with filleted edges to create the centred roof of the Great Hall.



I then created separate blocks for the windows, containing a central box, a rotated cylinder, three tall, thin cylinders, and the subtraction of a cross with filleted edges to create the windows block, I then copied this and rescaled it for the different windows. I also used the top half of this block to create the arch over the main door.



After this, I then created another Mesh Box, which I extruded at different sizes to finish the arch over the doorway, along with the door itself.



This completed the Great Hall.



I then added the materials and rendered the finished creation to get the pre-vision of what the Great Hall would look like.



All that was left to do was to create the different "stages" of construction, so that the purpose of our game to "rebuild" the Great Hall started becoming a reality.







As the materials I had placed on the models would not export into the desired format of .DAE, Adam Horne and I spent hours on end trying to work out a way to export materials so the models that appear in AR are not completely colourless. With the help of our Lecturer, Rob Blofield, we discovered that to do this, we had to user Standard materials without any maps, and only basic colours so that the mapless materials could be exported to the .DAE format.



These models still appeared colourless, we discovered that lights needed to be present within the .DAE file to display the materials.

We found that when multiple models appeared in AR, the increased number of lights from the multiple models made the AR models light up to look brighter than expected, so fix this we decided to created a pillar of lights that would appear in the middle of the table, so that all the models would be lighted to the correct amount, and the table would almost look like it had a sun in the centre of the play area.




To create the Axe, I first drew the outline based on Hanne Litlatun's Axe sketch. I then extruded this and filleted the edges.



I then created a 2D arc and line to create a semi-oval, and then revolved this around the end of the axe and then rotated the revolved shape to line it up with the axe head to create the blade.



I then imported the model into 3DS Max which allowed me to add the correct materials capable of being visible in AR.




To create the Planks I first created a 3D Box.



I then created different triangular shapes that I would then extrude and use to subtract from the box to create chips in the planks, so they are easily identifiable as wooden planks.



I then repeated this process for multiple planks, and rotate and placed them on top of each other. I then added the materials ready for AR use to complete the model.




To create the Sword, I began drawing different shapes and extruding them, as well as filleting the edges to create the guard and hilt, as designed by Elisha Pritchard. I thendrew the basic outline of the sword blade and extruded it. I also created the cross pattern seperately, extruded the pattern, copied it and scaled this pattern and then positioned it through the sword and subtracted it from the pommel and blade to create the "engraving".



To create the pointed end, I drew gigantic boxes and rotate them to make a point at the tip of the sword and then subtracted them from the blade. (This took a while and I forgot to take a screenshot so here's the end result).



I then applied materials to the model to finish off.



I also thought up the name "ARevisit" ;)

This is the first serious piece of CAD work that I completed after learning the basics of 3ds Max. This was completed during my work experience at Sovereign Playground Equipment after I was taught how to use the software. This is how I found my interest in CAD and how I decided I wanted to pursue this as a career. (I did not create what is on the TV or Phone screen, this was just me experimenting with inserting images and illuminating them).

This is the photo of the fairly uncomfortable room chair I was given in my University West Downs accommodation.




I then set about recreating this chair in AutoCAD so I could begin thinking of ways to improve on the ergonomic design of the chair.



This is the improved version I created in AutoCAD to display what I would change/add to the chair to make it more comfortable and ergonomically designed to be sat in for an extended period of time.

I created 3 Dynamic Blocks in Semester 2 Week 9, these come complete with parameters and grips allowing for scaling, arrays, flipping, aligning and changing shape.









The first shown block of the laptop ca be changed to show it from different angles and with an open/closed lid.









The hat also allows for changing the orientation and scaling.







The Parked Car can be arrayed and stretched as shown.

My first Mesh Object project was reshaping a single Mesh box (as shown in the bottom left) and then using the face extrude, face split and face merge tools along with erasing some faces to create a throne-like structure. I then used the crease tool on parts of the throne before I used the smooth tool to complete the finished look. I didn't know how to show the progression of a mesh object, as it is only the one original being worked with, so here are the end results!




My second Mesh object is a ring, I created by a Mesh Torus and then used the Face Extrude tool to create an external structure on the ring. I then used the Crease tool to not allow the new formed structure to collapse once I use the smooth tool to complete the design.




As I used my second mesh object (the ring pictured above) in my Mobile Device Project, I decided to create another one. I chose to create a Roman House. This idea came from our initial idea for our Interactive Project that we scrapped early on.

These are some objects I 3D modelled to practice 3D designing in AutoCAD.








When creating the Gear I encountered a problem with the extrusion of the outer teeth.

I sent an e-mail to my CAD lecturer Becky Baker regarding the problem and was taught how to fix the problem by using smaller teeth and using a different tool.

My friend, Henry Fisher, asked for my assistance with creating a 2D Pixel-Art 16-bit Zombie game, which we will continue to work on throughout Summer. My role was to create Assets, Sprites and Tiles for the game.

Before we began creation of the game itself, I was told to create tiles that I think would be useful in a Zombie Apocalypse styled game. Henry and I thought that a Hospital and a Fire Station are good starters for a Zombie Apocalyse and so I decided to test how to draw in 16-bit by creating the tiles for a Fire Station in PhotoShop.










This all looks like a mess, as these are each individual tile I created in PhotoShop, completely disorganised. This is done so that the style is 16-bit. Each tile is created at 16x16 pixels to look very simple. Using Tiled I was able to arrange these tiles into a TileSet which I then used to create an organised asset using the tiles I had created.



Using the same Method I was also able to create a post-apocalyptic, looted version of the Fire Station. This will be used to show the time progression within the game. Also, as I am working in tiles, these tiles could be interchanged with the previous tiles to "pick up" the Axe and Fire Equipment in the game.

This is the poster I created in 2D CAD to show my skills using Arrays, Splines, Arcs, Fillets, Hatching and Text in conjunction with the other, more simple tools. Much like the Cardboard House project, this task required a good understanding of maths to create the perfect length and angles of splines to create the desired effect of the facial features and clothing.



I started off by creating a very basic shape of a man in a flat cap and sharp-edged coat to test out the usage of splines to create a figure.



I then began work on some more complicated objects separately, these objects consisted of a courier bag, a gun barrel and a chain. I found it much easier to externally create them and then move them in to the frame created previously.



I then copied the created assets into the frame of the man previously created, to make the poster look more complex and interesting. This also shows my usage of the copy and mirror tools as well as some basic maths for angles and correct lengths.



Returning later, I added a mysterious symbol to the bag to show that I could effectively use the array commands correctly.



I decided against including the gun barrel in the final product of the poster. I then attempted to hatch my poster using different gradients, solids and patterns. I experimented with a lot of colours and gradients until I decided on an end result. I also selected an appropriate font "Blackadder ITC" which conveyed the correct tone I thought the poster reflected. I then imported this finished product into my A3 Portrait TitleBlock. However, this broke the hatching.



I then changed some of the hatching, plotted the poster as an image instead and saved my finished creation.

These are the scamps I knocked up to further my sketching skills, they are very simple sketches of buildings and objects around The University of Winchester.

These are my titleblocks for the various different page sizes I am likely to print my work onto.













These titleblocks were first planned and sketched after some research into what was required on a titleblock.

I began this project with alot of research which I have compiled into a Case Study on the topic of the amount of people eating alone regularly and the effect that this has on dietary behaviour and mental health.

Next I came up with a solution: A shared Kitchen and dining building with an accompanying app where people can go together to cook a healthy meal together and then share the meal in a nice setting afterwards.

Case Study

To begin, I made a basic template / layout for the communal building that would be used.

I then sent out a survey to find out how to improve upon my design, along with using BIM assets, creating a completely BIM-friendly model that could easily be created from the design.







It was around this time that I thought up the name "FoodMood" for my solution. What followed was the creating of the branding for the FoodMood. This started with the colour scheme being selected, along with the original logo.



The logo soon evolved, with better typography and the removal of the borders, using slightly more colour, but without being overwhelming.



With the creation of the Logo, I began work on the design of the app itself.



I got some immediate feedback from designers and developers as I went, which gave me some good ways to improve the app design as I went along to make it look how it does above.



To submit my proposal to the RSA, I would need to create supporting documents to show I had covered all aspects of the brief and done sufficient research.

My role in the recreation of The Talking Walls website was to create the 3D models for the new "KubeMatrix" and to create CAD visualisations of how the surrounding buildings would have looked.



I started by recreating the "KubeMatrix" as a proper 3D model, which can be spun around and interacted with more intuitively than the previous, static KubeMatrix.



The design of this KubeMatrix was too chunky to fit on the website, with the connectors and cubes being too visible to effectively be used. With this in mind, I decided to redesign the KubeMatrix to be more slim and rounded, looking nicer while being more practical.



I then began work recreating the Wine Press, which I created in Revit.



I then moved the model into Fusion 360 to attempt to render it, while learning a new software, whle trying to learn more about HDRs, Lighting and texturing. I used Fusion 360 as I thought it would make the process much simpler and easier to learn.





After visiting Beaulie, we visited what little was left of the Wine Press building.



I noticed that my model was incorrect, as the entrances were very obviously on the opposite sides of the building to what I first thought, and there were not so many windows. With this new knowledge I reopened by Revit project and made the necessary adjustments.





Personally thinking that the renders I had made in Fusion360 were too glossy and the lighting was off, I decided to move my models to 3Ds Max instead to create my own textures from maps I have downloaded from online, wiht more free reign of lighting, cameras and effectively using the HDR.





These models, complete with the textures, was exported as an OBJ along with the MTL and sent to Lewis Ragget so that it could be put up on the new Talking Walls website.
I made two versions of the Wine Press as the Wine Press was modified at some point in History.



After finishing the Wine Press, I took the task of also recreating the Tide Mill, using the same method as I created both of the Wine Press models. I first created the model in Revit.







The models were exported as OBJs with an MTL file attached so that they could be put up on the new Talking Walls website using Three.js.



I also applied my textures to our Client, Debs Wilson's previous model of Beaulie Abbey so that it would be textured when added to the website.

The first optional workshop I attended at The University of Winchester was the 3Ds Max workshop, as I had not used 3Ds Max for anything except importing, rendering and exporting for a years, so I thought I would rekindle my love for the software.

The workshop taught us first how to create cartoon, crazy buildings using custom materials, maps and multiple shape modifying tools. We then learnt to animate the camera, and then objects to create the moving renders and the text revolving the planet.

We then learnt to trace using splines, extrusion and beveling (which is completely different to AutoCAD to complete the same thing) to create the logo and to add the animation.

Next was the Adobe Illustrator Workshop, where I recreated the Batman logo using the Pen Tool, and gave it custom colours and effects.

I then set about creating a clipping mask out of text and shapes. What I created was text saying "Hoot Hoot" with Owl eyes in the background.

We were given a booklet to teach us Fusion360, which I followed to create and render the lamp you see below!

for this task we were given a geometric shape that we would have to turn into some kind of object.



I decided to turn my shape into a pillar.



I then took this pillar and turned it into a church, by first creating an outline out of copied pillars and filling it in with a big, solid object.



I then created an extrusion to "Cut" the pillars down to the required shape,so they wouldn't overlap with the roof.



I then completed a full extrusion to create a new "body" or "component" being the roof. I then textured all the components to create the final result. I challenged myself to create an architectural building in Fusion, but Fusion is more tailored for more mechanical objects, and not for architecture or buildings.

After being taught how to effectively use BIM within AutoCAD and other CAD Software, I created an example Block in AutoCAD along with a titleblock, which is colour-coded to show exactly how BIM layers are labelled, as well as how to add attributes to drawings.

I created some assets for the creation of the 3D video game recreation of the board game battleships. Each chosen character or "admiral" has their own ships with their own style and look, I created the ships for "The Deep One", a cursed deep sea diver voiced by Lewis Raggett, Whos ships are rusted and covered in barnacles and sea weed, as if the boats have been risen up from the deep
I gave myself a week to complete each of the ships, pumping out a finished version of each of the ships at the end of every week.
The first model is the Patrol Boat, the 2x1 ship.





Next, the Submarine (3x1)





Aircraft Carrier (4x1)





Destroyer? I barely know her (5x1)





I also created the boats for David Bones, a cheap Davey Jones knock-off. I also voice-acted David Bones and gave my best pirate voice, it was easy because I already look the part!
I started by creating a dinghy in place of the patrol boat for the 2x1 piece.





It was at this point I began recoding my work to create timelapses on how I made my models and textures them... At this stage, I only had the texturing of David Bones' Dinghy recorded, but began recording everything else I created, even from scratch, to be posted on instagram and LinkedIn.

For the Love Winchester app, I was tasked with creating some models of key points of interest in Winchester that can be "collected" at the locations and brought home to be revisited at home using Augmented Reality.
I started by creating the King Alfred statue, as I knew this would be the most difficult task! Never having modelled anything resembling a human before it was a very slow and painful process, but a process in which I did learn alot!



I began by creating the plinth he stands on as well as his feet, I then used cylinders and the "edit poly" command in 3Ds Max to creat the Legs, using one cylinder for the whole leg, reshaping and extruding for the knee, I then reshaped cubes to create the tunic and belt.

It was at this point the creating of a person became a little bit *existential*, working out how the arm bends and the hand grips was very strange to think about, as I kept having to stare at my hand looks very weird while working on this. It was equal parts exciting as it was terrifying. The cape and elbows were, again, just reshaped cubes.

I then imported my old sword from last year's Interactive project to act as King Alfred's own sword.

My Social Media campaign was to draw more attention to my website and to open up forms of connection and networks with more people from my field. For the easiest way to see what this was about check out my Instagram @snilloc.retsub and give it a cheeky follow while you're there ;)

For this module our task was to create a Social Media Campaign along with an action plan on what we would do and when...
So this was the extend of my action plan to begin with.



Which, for me, is a perfect plan, one I was able to stick to, but people expect to see something a little more organised and structured, with more information. Which I can't plan ahead too far as I don't know what I'll be working on or capable of doing at the time.
But to plan for the week in advance I always use Buffer to plan my instagram posts for the week, where I show the creation and story of my projects using timelapses and early renders!



I also use Buffer to plan my LinkedIn posts, where I show my finished results, made all pretty with lighting and HDRIs



YouTube has it's own scheduler which is very handy for setting up and readily uploading my informal "whitepaper-like" videos!

For my dissertation, I explored the potential positive impact on the environment, economy and social unification that switching from factory farming to bioprinted meat could have.

I began this task with the preconception that bioprinted meat would be much better in every way, but learned a lot about the economy behind the meat market, people's views and the limitations of bioprinting and cultured meat, as to why it is not already in circulation.

However, I hope that this dissertation helps raise awareness and can highlight the current problems, so they can be fixed easily, ready for market sales, as that was the goal of my dissertation!

My idea is for a cuddly toy that lets you talk, feel the warmth of, and heartbeat from your long-distance partner, through an interactable and fun plushy animal, allowing you to cuddle with your partner from anywhere!

Let's say, you're married and away on a business trip from your spouse. Let's say, you've moved away to University and won't see your family at home for a couple of months. Let's say you're in a committed relationship, forced to be long-distance by a global pandemic. My idea will keep that connection, security and intimacy over a long distance, to simulate the feeling of emotional closeness between loved ones from any distance apart. It is a cuddly toy that connects to another, with an in-built speaker, microphone, heater and heartbeat sensor (being able to change the features as wanted) that allows for a conversation, warmth and intimacy while cuddling. As if your loved one is right there with you! This can be used as a sleeping aid, if you're used to sleeping next to your partner, it can be used on an online date while watching a movie or playing games, or as motivation and companionship while working alone, along with countless other uses! The toy will be a one-time purchase, with a set price for a toy, or a deal for a set! The product will also come in a variety of sizes, costing different prices for each, fully customizable with more or less features and different animals, shapes and looks!

I have written a full business plan for my idea, along with an expected finance summary as well as an imaginary and ideal profit/loss summary!

For this project, I was working for a Rifle Club and Range. They had plans to expand their rifle range building to make the club room larger, as well as adding multiple new rooms, including a toilet and kitchen to their building. They also had plans to add disabled access along with security measures, including security cameras and floodlight!

I did not have much to go on, starting this project, except a very vague outline of what the client wanted the extension to look like, which was as much as a brief we were given about what to do.

As always, with improvement tasks, especially for Architecture, my first job is to accurately recreate what is already there, as is, so that I can edit what already exists to make it the most accurate! This model was made from scratch, based on the measurements I made when visiting the site with the other students working on this project. We all agreed to take the measurements together, and then submit our own designs, to give the client a range of plans to choose their favourite.





The next task is to make the rifle club fit the new specification. For this, I bumped the walls out by 1.5m each way for the club room, and about 3 metres out to the front, which I would be using for the new rooms. These measurements were given by the client, in person, after their planning permissions had been changed since the original brief.















After finishing my interpretation of what the client wanted to be done, I sent an email to one of the directors of the project.





We arranged an online meeting, that allowed me to go through and make changes live, with the client watching me and adding his input. Because of this, we were able to create and design something exactly as he invisioned it, which we were both happy with.















Once I am sure that the client is completely happy with the work done, I will be able to complete the final step and create a detailed render of the building to send to the client as well as show off on my portfolio! :D

The last task was to create a scale drawing and plan of the Rifle Club along with a titleblock, measurements and fancy renders to display to the client.

After submitting these plans, I was contacted by the client asking to change something, I found it was unclear if this had been explained sooner, so did not know if I had disappointed the client or not. As to not risk it I made it my top priority to fix the issue, immediatley changing the plan and sending it back.

After showing my lecturer the plans, I was advised to make some changed to make it professional, while also allowing a seperate pdf to show any changes I thought would be better, of my accord. As such I then sent two sets of pdfs, with my own new proposals as well as the most professional layout.

Virtual Cities is a digital recreation of the City of Winchester using the Unreal Engine. Many students are working in conjuction to create most of the key buildings around Winchester, that can be imported into the Unreal Engine for a walkthrough of the city!

My contribution include the West Gate Pub:





However, after learning the ropes of ArchiCAD, I had created the ground floor quite happily. It was then that it dawned on me, that perhaps the client was asking for a model to be made of the West Gate itself, the arched ruins, and not the pub. After a brief panic, I decided I would finish the model of the West Gate Pub, as pictured above, to learn how to use ArchiCAD efficiently, before creating what the client truly wanted. Allowing me to create the necessary models to the best of my ability.

After scrutinising my model for quite some time against the reference images, I found the windows were slightly too far to the side. As such, I move the windows to make the model as detailed as could be.

As part of our Application to Princess Yachts, potential interns were tasked with creating a ‘concept for a Unit of Furniture, using the X95 Saloon or Dining Area as a reference’.

My proposal for the X95 Project is the concept of a pop-up minibar. My idea is that sailors love a good drink, but safely stowing a drink consumes space, and is time-consuming, reaching around in cabinets for bottles and glasses. My idea allows for a simple solution, placing bottles and glasses inside a minibar, that safely stows itself inside the table when not in use. While stowed, the interior will be refigerated, to be ready for a nice, cold, refreshing drink whenever the need arrises. I tried to keep my renders and specifications in keeping with the current funiture of the X95, but any part of the concept can be changed and most design choices can be altered without affecting the functionality of the idea, to fit in anywhere. I believe this idea is practical, as well as being flashy. Without being too overboard (pun intended). I worked with my father (a sailboat racer), bouncing ideas off of him, to keep this idea grounded and as efficient as possible!
